Was watching a recent episode of, "Fun With Science" and it occurred to me to mention the venerable "Conway's Game of Life". It has been described as "Turing Complete" and "artificial Life" and yet is accessible to almost anyone. There are a plethora of web sites to dive into and rolling your own is even within the grasp of of dolts like me.
