G+_Bruce B
Android fans please can you provide some help? I am looking to replace my laptop. Should I buy a MacBook Pro or a Dell XPS 13? I use lightroom and Skype so a Chromebook is not appropriate. I like the look of the Apple hardware but I have no need for the Apple Services. All of the AAA hosts use Apple laptops so I am assuming that this is the platform of choice. Help please
G+_Mark Stronge
XPS for sure, great machine, great build quality with the dell and with the option to do whatever you want with it. Linux/windows etc. Be sure that it's an ssd inside (not sure what the standard is)?
G+_Tory Harmon
Macbook. OSX is just superior, but if you don't agree, the hardware will support any of the main 3.
G+_Ed Woodward
If you are referring to the new Dell XPS 13, my daughter just got one and it is a beautiful piece of hardware.
G+_Kevin Smith
It pains me to say this (I actually felt a little pang in my chest) but if you are going to spend that sort of money in the first place just go for the MacBook Pro. Better quality, better performance. yeah the XPS has touch Screen but over all the Mac would be the better choice
G+_Fredrik Tempelman
A lot of none Androiders here. Never ever is a locked down system lika OSX an option. Period.
G+_Ed Woodward
You do not seemed too worried about OS. For about the same price you can get a System 76 Ubuntu laptop. I have one at work and at home. Highly recommend.
G+_Stephen Syputa
At least consider a 2015 Pixel. The hardware is leading edge with ports galore so smallish 32\64 hi is a non-issue. I am running with extra memory in two of the five ports: an ultrafast stubby USB-3 & a 128GB Class10 Samsung SD yielding 64+64+128=256GB SSD, most of it (192GB) easily removable & upgradable and barely extending beyond the aluminum frame. Linux screams on this device and I suspect that Chrome's capabilities will be expanded in the very near future to allow most other software (Apple excluded, of course) or equiv to smoothly operate (I admit there is still work to do on the offline ops), including the entire Android gamut. Did I mention 1TB | 3year cloud stowage included, where all data is retained at no charge upon time expiration? With a week of very heavy video and photo editing activities along with web browsing galore I have charged the Pixel four times, never getting lower than 60% battery depletion. Every charge event brought the Pixel to full charge IN ABOUT AN HOUR. Remarkable. At gut-level I think this puppy would last ~10 consecutive hours or so with the way I use it (screen brightness~=50%/ Playing background music through speakers/30+ tabs open, 6 open windows: Chrome, Drive, Files, Pixlr, Solitaire & Keep). At least give the 2015 Pixel a consideration.
G+_Leif
The Dell XPS 13 is a wonderful peace of hardware but you can't really go wrong with either. One thing Apple does better is the Touchpad. I would probably wait until Lightroom 6 is released (very soon) to see how much it relies on the GPU. It will be the first LR version that makes use of it and it might effect the configuration you want.
G+_Gareth Edwards
After a lot of consideration I went for the MacBook Pro and I am LOVING it so far. I only have a couple of negatives so far 1) I can't ever find the # key 2) the @ is in the wrong place 3) it is not easy to copy and paste using the keyboard as it is not normal to hit the cmd key 4) I can't transfer my lightroom licence 5) my news group reader doesn't support Mac OS Things I like 1) the touchpad and magic mouse are awesome 2) the thunderbolt monitor with the macbook pro is lovely 3) battery life is extremely long To improve things I have removed as many Apple apps and replaced them with the Google or Microsoft alternatives.
