G+_Jared Messervy
Some of the other places might have it in stock. https://www.synology.com/en-us/wheretobuy/United%20States
G+_J Miller
Why are those so dam expensive? Just a cheap computer with some metal bays for HDs.
G+_Black Merc
J Miller sure, you could get a 5-bay tower with a decent system(hw) and load in bsd, freeNAS or other OS for less but, the maker(Synology) has done all that and made it as simple as possible to install, maintain, expand and upgrade... That has to be worth something.
G+_J Miller
My 6 year old HP Proliant server is all of that and was built beautifully for less than 400$. Still runs like a champ with 5 HD's in it sucking less than 60 watts. These just seems overpriced to me. Does FreeNAS do everything these Synologys do? G+_Jason Brown
Good gawd, and they don't even come with the drives included? I wish I could justify getting one. I wonder how many people buy these, when they could probably get by with a buffalo link or tera station.
G+_Gene Hill
I bought one last year, I have some buyers remorse. It was alot of money for not as much compute as I would like, but I love the DSM software and the appstore(though I could get by with docker). G+_Ben Reese
I'd trust Synology over most brands. I think FreeNAS can do everything Synology DSM can do - but may be more work. The newest versions of FreeNAS also require 8+ GB RAM, while Synology DSM functions well on less RAM.
G+_J Miller
Here is the 10gen of the HP Proliant box servers. Less than 400$ or half the cost of the OP's cdw.com - HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Entry - ultra micro tower - Opteron X3216 1.
