G+_All About Android
Last night's episode proved that Francisco Franco simply doesn't care about silly things. Also, that he and Liam Spradlin make a dynamic development duo with their app Focus. Oh, and that Jason Howell and Ron Richards are always looking for an excuse to eat S'mores. We also talk about Marshmallow, OnHub, new Samsung Note 5/6 Edge+, Project Ara, kooky Android Experiments, and much more! G+_Daniel Grossberg
Great episode Francisco Franco? and Liam Spradlin?! That s'more recipe sounds amazing, but I think Jason Howell?was just letting his inner punk roots come out with the blow torch.
G+_Saifee Akil
Good episode. All respect for Francisco Franco???. He nailed it almost exactly with his views on Samsung's boring and endless hardware releases and the android OEM problems. ?I sincerely hope that this year Google comes out with much better Nexus devices that save Android's behind. G+_R.C. Curtright
It was refreshing to hear someone can be a non Fanboy appreciate iOS devices and yet still appreciate Android as well. Very good discussion!
G+_L I
Hmm I find it a bit strange how Franco's iPhone love is met with love and praise while similar, IMO less critical, criticism by Myriam Joire was met with such derision a few months back. For me, it's one thing to say that Wallet or the Watch aren't good enough experiences compared to the Apple counterparts (which I've said as much wrt how HCE sucks) but a blanket reality-distortion-esque "It Just Works" opinion is just not good enough IMO and shouldn't be accepted as valid. G+_R.C. Curtright
Lionel D?? way to paint with a broad brush. Did it even occur to you that those of us who are praising this here are NOT the same people who got angry with Maraim for praising iOS??
G+_Anthony Kelly
I've mentioned this on the TWiT thread, but YouTube streaming isn't technically Samsung exclusive Sony Xperia? phones were capable of streaming to YouTube a year ago The app is on the Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonymobile.camera.addon.livefromsonyxperia Another great show, guys. I never miss it
G+_L I
R.C. Curtright? just my observations. I'll amend if I see anyone else critical of the Franco Kernel inventor badmouthing Android.? Also using a very broad brush.
G+_R.C. Curtright
Guess we'll see, I thought he was pretty diplomatic about it saying this was 'best for him' and he still 'loves the platform'. I don't mine peoples preferences changing even if they were once an Android kernal dev, it's the 'I'm right and everyone who thinks otherwise is wrong' that makes me tune out. G+_L I
He was verging on zealot mode when Jason mentioned stuff that only Android could do (IIRC NFC or wireless charging) dismissing by saying "how often do you do that" but then backed down as Jason skillfully diffused the situation. I mean it was funny to watch, but a bit too "it just works" for my tastes. He may no longer need the flexibility of Android in his daily life but it doesn't mean that everyone else wants to or should jump into the walled garden for their daily driver. G+_Edward Walsh
I thought it was the worse AAA show ever. The two guests were the most boring talkers. One and two word answers and I could barely hear the AP guy. Only when FF spoke of his love of the iPhone did he put sentences together. If I wanted iPhone love I would watch Leo's other shows. G+_R.C. Curtright
Good point about the question Edward Walsh?. Perhaps the question was a bit pushy and Jason reeled things back in a bit. Still a good point though. I trumpeted NFC, wireless charging and stuff my ROM could do to iPhone owners so I could feel smyg. However, there gets to be a point for some of us where the 'oooh coool' factor gets old and a person just wants a simple workable device. I bought NFC tags and didn't use them after a week. Same for my wireless charging ect. Just give me key apps and a browser. Moreover I think Samsung can keep its stylus, drawing on a dark screen and whatever other gimmick they cook up, and the One Plus gimmickry is even more tiring. That's probably why he resonated with me. But that is just me, I'm sure the hardcore still use this stuff.?
G+_Edward Walsh
R.C. Curtright? that is the strength of Android. You want key apps and a browser? Android has you covered. Want a stylus? Android can deliver. What a no compromise flagship? Android gives you choices.
G+_L I
R.C. Curtright I barely use mobile payments or SD cards or NFC file transfer or what some others might see as gimmicks. But I want to know that it's there. I want to know that when I need it I have real (realer) multitasking, multiple data sharing methods, full featured 3rd party keyboards or file managers or services that sync folders with my Linux box or have a proper Google Now experience. My iOS device is a pretty consumption device with lots of free apps. My Android devices (and my HP Windows tablet) are pocket computers that I can do computer stuff with. G+_Jason Howell (raygun01)
This is such a polarizing episode! Look, we didn't really end up getting too deep into the Samsung hardware because the discussion took a sharp turn (as you all know) and we failed to bring it back to the topic at hand, so I'll take the blame for that. I plan on amending that with next week's episode so we can actually close out the "what do we actually think of the hardware Samsung announced?" discussion. But anyone getting all pissy over the fact that some people choose FOR THEMSELVES to use phones on other platforms, and beyond that those people (aka guests of this show) actually tell us why they chose that on a show that is all about these kinds of discussions, well, I don't know what to tell you. We try very hard with All About Android to make it just as comfy for Android users as for users of other platforms, and I'm proud of the fact that I hear from MANY iOS users who say they don't have an Android device yet they love the show and watch every week. As for Ron Richards and I, sure, we are huge Google and Android fans and that will always shine bright on this show. But I don't think its wrong to show other sides, ESPECIALLY when it comes up so suddenly as it did in the middle of the Samsung discussion. You may not agree with Francisco Franco but you have to respect the fact that he understands Android deeply (his track record proves that) and yet chooses now iOS for reasons that are important to him. And just cause he did doesn't make the show any worse, or doesn't invalidate his opinions throughout the show. I will never keep someone from the show cause their experience or opinion differs from a strict "Android or Die" mentality. Why do people internalize these things so damn much? So you love every single thing about Android. Great. Guess what? Not everyone does. And you know what? Their reasons are valid. Just as are yours. We want to represent all opinions on the show, and will continue to do so. Sorry if that turns away some fans of the show, but thems the breaks. USE WHAT WORKS FOR YOU. End of line. G+_Anthony Kelly
For what it's worth, I thoroughly enjoyed the show, Mr Raygun01 Sure, things did go off topic for a while and I get that some people will be sensitive to certain comments that were made, but that's normal in live recordings - and it's fine Francisco Franco?? knows Android very well, but it's totally normal that a certain annoying experience might push someone towards another device as a daily driver. It isn't enough for me to leave club Nexus, but I know that his location lock issues are real and I do see them sporadically Some things about iOS annoy me to the point that I don't want to buy an iPhone, but that doesn't mean that one platform can do no right and the other no wrong. You just choose what fits ...and for me, what fits is a huge Nexus 6 ?
G+_L I
Jason Howell I don't think you or the show did anything wrong - and everyone is entitled to their opinion. I just think that as fans of the platform, we're owed more than the typical Apple marketing-speak especially from someone so deeply involved with Android. We already get so much of it from the rest of the tech press. It's like if Mr. Goodwrench all of a sudden starts driving a Tesla and saying, "Guys, gas powered cars are horrible and never work right." You were just trying not to be Mike Myers standing next to an angry Kanye West.
G+_Francisco Franco
Guys, take 2 deep breaths. Done? Ok. I'm sorry that the Samsung part was derailed, it was my fault. It came up because I started thinking if I actually cared about these new Samsung devices and I came to the conclusion that I don't, and then I looked to my iPhone and was instantly reminded that, because of the stupid TouchWiz that Samsung uses, and all these other OEMs that enjoy fucking with stock Android, I use the iPhone as my daily phone. I was asked my opinion about Note 5 and Edge+ and I said it very bluntly, they don't excite me at all, they are just more of the same. Then I made a juxtaposition with the iPhone and my experience with it. If you can't live with the fact that some people prefer to use one platform to another (if I used a Windows Phone and said that it was amazing NO ONE WOULD CARE), then, in my opinion, you should re-evaluate your feelings. It's OK to have a different opinion. It's OK for you to prefer Android as a daily device and it's OK for me to prefer an iPhone, right now. But guess what, I have like 10 Android phones that I use for programming apps and Kernels, but I guess that doesn't count for you. All that I said is MY opinion, with MY experience. They are not universal truths, but simply what I prefer and feel, it's not fucking propaganda, I couldn't care a single shit about what press and blogs say about anything, I make my own damn mind. Respect that I enjoy a different platform, because I respect that you prefer Android.

G+_R.C. Curtright
I think if the 'it just works' line is backed with a personal experience of how it worked for you when Android didn't, then it's not 'Apple propaganda', it is simply your real life experience Francisco Franco??. Thanks for shaking things up a bit!?
