Anybody else wish that Google Wallet was what Apple pay is looking to be?

It is actually very much the same.  The differences are:

- Apple Pay uses the Secure Element.  Google Wallet used to use, but backed out due to complaints from Verizon.  A drawback is that it now requires an internet connection before making a payment.

- Apple Pay uses a one-time, auto-generated Credit Card number that is associated with your account.  Google Wallet uses the same Credit Card number for all transactions.

- Apple Pay uses Touch ID (with a PIN/Passcode fallback), whereas Google Wallet solely uses a PIN.

So, from a User standpoint, they are, in essence, the same.  The difference being that Apple now has an edge on security, but this could be changed if Verizon allows Google Access to the Secure Element.

The next question is whether Apple will allow Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile access to the Secure Element (either built-in or via the SIM card) for their competing service, called Softcard (formerly ISIS).
