Why I won't be a Google self-driving car early adopter. (TL;DR rant mode)

 

I am a huge fan of Google and Android but I've reached my tolerance limit with regards to a huge usability issue. And make no mistake Siri and Kortana have the same issue. Make a phone that has good speech recognition and habit recognition. Every morning I commute 40 minutes. Audible language lessons, followed by Google Play music. Every work day for the last 6 months. Every morning I shout at my phone at varying volumes "Play music". Every morning it answers " Playing YouTube". 4 or 5 times. Don't log my steps, read my blood pressure, my glucose. If you can't recognize speech or handle calls, or recognize behavior patterns, I can't trust you to drive me.

I'll wait for release Google Car 3.0. Phone MotoX 2nd Gen.

Its funny because I am often amazed at how well it does picking up my speech. Your "play music" thing sounds like you have you tube set as your default music app for voice commands but I don't know.

Instead of saying "play music" try saying "listen to some music" (provided you're looking for random tracks and not trying to start where you left off).

If I'm in my car sitting still it does great, when being hands free isn't a huge benefit. But at 65 to 70 it is really not effective. I'll try the change to the launch phrase. My default music player is Google Play.
